Frequently asked questions
Does it work on a cheap Android phone?
Yes — that is the device we design for. Pages are rendered on the server and ship almost no JavaScript, so screens load quickly on a low-end phone over a 3G connection.
What happens when the network drops mid-register?
Your marks are saved on the device and upload themselves when the signal returns. Submitting twice cannot create two registers, so you can retry safely.
Can I use my own grading system?
Yes. Pick a preset — A1 to F9, A to F, competency levels 1 to 4, seven-level achievement, or descriptive bands for nursery — and then edit every band. You also set your own assessment weighting.
Can we keep collecting fees in cash?
Yes, and most schools do. Cash, bank transfer, POS and cheque are recorded by staff and produce the same ledger entry and receipt as an online payment. Online collection is optional.
Which payment providers can we use?
It depends on your country. A Nigerian school sees Paystack and Flutterwave; a Kenyan one sees M-Pesa; a Ugandan or Ghanaian one sees MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money. You can also connect your own merchant account so settlements go straight to you.
Can a parent see another parent’s child?
No. Each school’s data is isolated in the database itself, and within a school a guardian can only see the children they are linked to — in the categories your school has permitted for them.
Will the AI tutor just do my child’s homework?
No, and it is built to refuse. In homework mode it works out the method, demonstrates it on a different example of its own, and hands the actual question back one step at a time. If a student insists, it explains kindly why it will not.
Can teachers read what students ask the tutor?
No. Staff see aggregate information — which topics a class asks about and which they repeatedly get wrong. Individual conversations are not exposed. The single exception is a conversation the safety system escalates for a safeguarding concern, which goes to the staff your school designates.
What if the tutor is asked something outside our curriculum?
It says so. It searches your country’s approved curriculum for the student’s grade first, and where it finds nothing relevant it tells the student their curriculum does not cover it rather than inventing an answer.
Do we need an internet connection to start using it?
To set up, yes. Day to day, attendance works through an outage, and the app installs from the browser so it opens like any other app on the phone.
Can we run more than one campus?
Yes. A school group has one organisation with several campuses, and group administrators can switch between them and see aggregated figures where they are authorised to.
How do we get our existing students in?
Download the template, paste in your spreadsheet, and upload it. Every row is validated first: you see how many are ready and exactly what is wrong with the rest, and you fix them before anything is saved.
What happens to our data if we leave?
It is yours. You can export your records at any time, and request deletion. Your school sets its own retention periods, including for AI tutor conversations.
Can we change the name and colours to our school’s?
Yes — your logo, colours and school name appear throughout, including on report cards and receipts. Darasio itself is configurable for partners who resell the platform.
